We Had a Mini-Reunion in the FLORIDA KEYS - Oct. 11 - 20, 2016.

Our largest gathering was at the Lazy Days Restaurant in Marathon on the evening of Oct. 14.

Shown (L-R) Bill Sanderson, Charlie Cabrera, Bonnie Shuler Sanderson, Bob Wallace, Bob Weber.
Bill and Bonnie live in the Keys. Bill just retired. His celebration cake is shown below.

Bonnie works in real estate and for charitable causes. Click Here.

Bob Wallace also lives in the Keys, although he is always at the ready for sailing the high seas. He brought some Northwestern memorabilia to the Mini-Reunion.

He has been an integral part of an organization that conducts research on whales. - Whale.org
Bob's role has been Captain and caretaker of the research vessel "Odyssey" which is a 93 foot, steel hulled Ketch.

Rather than try to explain his specific duties and the mission of the research vessel, we have made a video -

Our other, previous Florida Keys mini-reunions are with John Gaylor and Charlie Cabrera. They make their annual adventure to the Florida Keys for boating, fishing and snorkeling every year about the same time. This year, however, Hurricane Matthew wreaked havoc along the southeast coast just before John was ready to drive down. I-95 was Closed for several days and thereby thwarted his trip.

Other Class of '69 Wildcats are Welcome to Join in.

Activities change based upon the weather. Some days are better for fishing and some days work better for cycling. It is not difficult to have a good time in the Florida Keys. Attitudes are definitely laid back.

We can always meet at the No Name Pub

It is much better to come to the Keys for several days and NOT just for a party on one single night.

The PREVIOUS YEAR's party was held at the Square Grouper Restaurant on the evening of Oct. 21.

The year before that was at: Keys Fisheries Restaurant

Dining out for quality meals of fresh seafood is a big part of the experience.

The headquarters for the Destination Mini-Reunion was at Parmers Resort on Little Torch Key.

Our concept is really the annual Boating, Fishing and Scuba Diving trip for Charlie Cabrera, John Gaylor and Bob Weber.

If you prefer something more exotic than Parmers, the next nearest place is Little Palm Island.

Little Palm Island is FULL DELUXE and is known for hosting celebrities. Sandra Bullock and Tiger Woods stayed there, but it is tough to learn the full guest list.

One of the activities we did was a cycling trip around Key West. To see it, TRY THIS LINK.

There have actually been numerous Mini- Reunions there in the Florida Keys over the past ten years. It has been a small group thus far, and yet it can easily be expanded. KEY WEST is a great place to party.

There were numerous other choices for places to party in 2015.

Kelly's Key West

Hogs Breath Saloon

Green Parrot

The Schooner Wharf Bar which has been described as, The Center of the Universe.

There are many similar places in the Keys such as:

30 miles up Rt. 1 from Key West is Big Pine Key, which has the -

We try to have a mini-reunion in the Keys EVERY YEAR during the fall. We usually plan to meet somewhere in the Keys around the first week of November. Dates are TO BE DETERMINED.

On previous mini-reunions, we have stayed at the Old Wooden Bridge Fishing Camp.

We know the fishing camp will probably not be very popular with the ladies. It is great for guys who like fishing, boating, scuba diving and drinking beer. Sorry, but that is about the extent of our previous mini-reunions. We also ride bicycles, do some kayaking and go to great seafood restaurants.

If you want a more exclusive place to stay, you can try Little Palm Island Private Resort.

We have also stayed at the Continental Inn, Marathon, which is very reasonable. (Ask for unit 31)

It all depends upon the numbers, - and your feedback will determine the interest.

WE KNOW there are other Wildcats who live in Florida. October 2015 was the chance to get together for a Mini-Reunion.

Here are some of the challenges in scheduling anything in Florida: Long distance from Maryland, or wherever, . .
Yes, we know this is the end of the annual hurricane season, but it does not cost as much as during peak tourist season.

Please notice that MORE Mini-Reunions have been proposed for Florida every November (as long as we can keep making it there).
